Update from Heads of School Feb 9th:

'Due to the massive success and expansion to 3 courses / year of the stage 1 trauma course across the region, we will no longer routinely fund ATLS within stage 1- as this does not prepare resident doctors to attend a trauma call as an anaesthetist. The course feedback has been excellent and fulfills curriculum requirement for stage 1 trauma.

Funding will remain available on a discretionary basis where a resident is unable to get onto the trauma course prior to the end of their stage 1 training or for example someone regularly has a pre hospital role where this would be required. TPD would need to approve.

To get the most out of the course it needs to be done as a minimum after IAC (ideally 2nd year anaesthetics) otherwise all discussions around anaesthesia will not be fully understood.'

For any discretionary funding, please contact the TPDs rather than the Education Leads.
