Here is some more detail on what is available and how you can use the courses available to complement your training pathway:

Your Critical Incident Course is essential for your IAC. If you are unable to attend your local hospital critical incident course, check the calender to see if you can partake in another hospital within the regions incident course.

Working towards your IACOA? There is the Obstetrics Anaesthetic Crisis Resource Management (MYTT) or Bradford Obstetric Emergency Anaesthesia or BOASTY Course - Basic Obstetric Anaesthesia Simulation Training of Yorkshire (Hull) or Basic Obstetric Anaesthesia Day (Rotherham) course you can attend.

Starting your 6 months of Stage 1 ICM can sometimes be daunting, but you can hit the ground running by attending EPIC 1: Enhanced Preparation for Intensive Care Medicine which runs twice a year: September and February. This is aimed specifically at Stage 1 trainees and covers tracheostomies, vasopressors, inotropes, renal replacement therapy, and commonly encountered conditions (amongst other things!)

Attending the Leeds Sedation Course and the Stage 1 Trauma course will also fit in nicely with other HALOs required!

Regional anaesthesia is a core requirement for your Stage 1. Why don't you attend RANT-Y: Regional Anaesthesia for Novice trainee- Yorkshire or Mid Yorkshire Regional Anaesthesia Group (MYRAG) or Harrogate Regional Anaesthesia Course

Want to be more confident with ultrasound? Try the Hull Ultrasound Master course (HUM)?

Remember that everything is complemented by your local novice teaching which occurs regularly.

Applications to ST4 can be daunting. There are ST4 Anaesthetics Interview Courses that are available. Make sure to check the calender and sign up to one of these days!

Working towards advancing your airway skills further?

Yorkshire Difficult Airway Workshop (YDAW) is an annual course (usually September) aiming to refresh and update skills in managing difficult airway, and to provide practical hands on experience in techniques outlined in the DAS guidelines.

There is also the East Yorkshire Difficult Airway Course designed for post FRCA trainees. On this study day, you will you cover interactive case based discussions, workshops on
advanced airway skills and simulation based scenarios

Difficult airway CBD Virtual Teaching is also aimed at Stage 2/3 trainees - check out the Calendar for upcoming dates.

Wanting more Paediatric teaching?

Simulated Paediatric Emergency Care Scenarios (SPECS) Course in Hull is a multi-disciplinary, multiprofessional course aimed at
healthcare personnel who respond to emergency bleeps. There is also SAFE Paediatrics Yorkshire in Hull.

In addition, there is also Managing Emergencies in Paediatric Anaesthesia (MEPA) in Hull. MEPA aims to give the opportunity to develop management strategies for emergencies in paediatrics anaesthesia using high fidelity simulation.

There is also the Neonatal Airway Training (NAT) Course for those interested in paediatric anaesthesia

Interested in obstetric anaesthesia education days?

The Obstetric Advanced Anaesthesia Simulation Training of Yorkshire (TOAASTY): This course is suitable for consultant
anaesthetists (with OR without obstetric sessions), SAS doctors and senior trainees with an interest in obstetric anaesthesia.

PROMPT: PRactical Obstetric Multi-Professional Training provides training for maternity units: helping midwives, obstetricians and anaesthetists be safer and more effective

EPIC 2: Enhanced Preparation for Intensive Care Medicine. EPIC 2 is aimed at Stage 2 Anaesthetics training working towards their Stage 2 ICM HALO - a full day of more advanced ICM topics.

There are also the Leeds and Sheffield Major Trauma Courses for Stage 2 trainees which is great for further Trauma experience. Make sure to sign-up!

There is also the Sheffield Children’s Advanced Trauma Course (CAT) which is a day on the essentials of how to manage and lead in major/polytrauma in children.

YAIRN ICM will enable residents to have easy access to courses specifically for ICM trainees as well as teaching days/courses aimed at more non-clinical aspects of your training

Intensivists are becoming more aware of their reducing number of percutaneous tracheostomies performed. Make sure you attend YOR TRACH: Yorkshire and Humber Percutaneous Tracheostomy Course for ICM. This is a course designed for ICM trainees with a full day of workshops, lectures, simulation and animal cadaveric practice!

The National Deceased Donation Course for Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) Trainees is a free national course that has been developed with engagement from the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (FICM) and the Intensive Care Society (ICS), and covers Domain 8 of the FICM syllabus: End of Life Care.

FRCA Primary

SPARK SBA: A free, high-yield course designed to prepare Yorkshire anaesthetic trainees for the FRCA Primary SBA exam. Concise talks on key topics, exam tips and recommendations

There are multiple virtual and face to face primary FRCA courses and teaching days.

There is the Virtual Primary FRCA SOE Revision Day run by Hull. https://frcaheadstart.org will have more details regarding upcoming dates!

FRCA Final

York Final Written Exam Revision Course: Virtual course via Teams, a full mock Final FRCA Written sent to candidates prior to course - to be completed remotely​, and tutorials based of the curriculum

Another FRCA Final written course available is the Hull Online FRCA Final Written Exam Course, which is 6 days of final FRCA written exam oriented teaching, CRQ and SBA practice.

There also is the VYVA Final FRCA SOE Prep Course which also runs 8 morning session.
